Seven Waterfalls Trail in Istria: A Hiking Adventure
#

Introduction
#

Water draws people in, and the Mirna River has plenty of it. The circular ‘Seven Waterfalls Trail’ starts and ends in the town of Buzet. It works for beginners, and it works for seasoned hikers who want to sink into the region’s nature.

The Mystical Beauty of the Trail
#

The trail looks different every season. Summer brings thick green vegetation along the path. Autumn swells the river with rain, and the water babbles loud over the rocks. Winter freezes droplets on the branches, glinting when the sun comes through. Spring wakes everything back up, with flora blooming under warmer light.

A Journey of 13.5 Kilometers
#

The trail covers 13.5 kilometers, roughly a five-hour walk that mostly follows the Mirna River. It passes seven waterfalls, each with its own sound and character. You start out on Buzet’s walking paths, which sets the tone before you hit the wilder sections.

The Majestic Waterfalls
#

The journey begins with the first waterfall, standing 5 meters tall. The small lake formed by its cascading waters spans 24.4 meters, and it leaves an impression. The second waterfall, Bačva, stands 8 meters high with a 5.8-meter width, forming a 12.1-meter lake.

Keep going and you’ll hit Vela Peć, the big one, towering 26.5 meters and spanning 5.6 meters. A good spot to stop, catch your breath and take photos.

Discovering Hidden Gems
#

Further along, you’ll see the Mala Peć waterfall, 4 meters high and 3 meters wide. The standout is Kotli, 12 meters tall and 7 meters wide, with an old mill nearby overlooking the lakes and falls. Take time to walk through the newly renovated village of Kotli itself. And if you’re here in summer, bring a swimsuit, you’ll want to use it.

The trail continues to the Ispod Stare Kave waterfall, 7.9 meters high and 2.5 meters wide. The last one is Grjak, at 8.20 meters tall, 35.4 meters wide and 6.1 meters deep. A proper way to finish.
