Čakovec

The capital of Međimurje, Croatia’s northernmost county, and for centuries the seat of the powerful Zrinski counts, whose old fortress still anchors the town centre.

Čakovec sits in Central Croatia, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Mornings are quieter and cooler. Most old towns wake up slowly, so an early coffee is worth the effort.

Best time to visit

Čakovec is at its best from May to October. June and September are the sweet spot, warm water, long days, and thinner crowds than high July and August. Winter shows a quieter, cheaper and surprisingly handsome country, especially inland and in the cities.
