The Biokovo Skywalk is a glass-floored observation walkway that juts out over the edge of the Biokovo mountain at Ravna Vlaska, roughly 1,200 metres above the Makarska Riviera, and gives a vertiginous view straight down the cliffs to the coast. It opened in 2020 as the headline feature of the Biokovo Nature Park, and it has become one of the most popular new viewpoints in the country.

The walkway is a horseshoe of steel and laminated glass, and standing on it you look through the floor at the drop below and out over the Makarska Riviera, the islands of Brač and Hvar and, on a clear day, the coast of Italy. The structure is built to handle crowds and is entered through the park’s visitor infrastructure, with timed tickets in season.

The Skywalk sits on the Biokovo scenic road, the slow, narrow route that climbs from the coast up to the high karst plateau, and it is usually combined with a drive up towards Sveti Jure, the 1,762-metre peak of the mountain. The road itself is part of the experience, a steady climb through pine and then bare karst.

For photographers, the view through the glass floor and the sweep of the Riviera below are the shots. Book ahead in summer, as timed entry now applies, and take a jacket, it is genuinely cold at the top when the coast is hot.
