Cres Town

The largest Croatian island by area, shared in a long-running freshwater dispute with neighbouring Lošinj. Its remote interior holds the endangered griffon vulture and the abandoned dry-stone village of Dragodid.

Cres Town sits in Kvarner, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Mornings are quieter and cooler. Most old towns wake up slowly, so an early coffee is worth the effort.

Best time to visit

Cres Town rewards a visit between May and October. The sweet spot is June or September, when the water is warm and the crowds thinner than in July and August. Come in winter and you find a quieter, cheaper country, at its most likeable inland.
