Dragodid

An abandoned dry-stone village on the island of Cres, a centre for preserving the traditional Suhozid building technique. The empty stone houses and terraces show how islanders lived before depopulation.

Dragodid sits in Kvarner, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the abandoned place is the reason most people stop.

Ruins are unstable. Do not climb on structures, watch for loose masonry and never go in alone. Many of these places are sites of difficult history, so move quietly and take nothing.

When to go

The best window for Dragodid runs May to October. June and September balance warmth and thinner crowds; July and August are busy and hot. Out of season, winter shows a calmer, cheaper Croatia that rewards the inland cities.
