Kraljevica

A coastal town at the mouth of the Bakar bay with a Frankopan castle. Shipbuilding has been the main trade here since the 17th century.

Kraljevica sits in Kvarner, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Shoulder season, May or September, gives you the charm without the cruise ship crowds. Wander off the main street, the best cafés and doorways are one alley over.

When to go

Plan Kraljevica for May to October, with June and September the quietest warm months. July and August bring the crowds and the heat; winter is cheaper and handsomer than people expect, especially in the inland cities.
