Kutina

A Moslavina town that became the centre of Croatia’s petroleum industry after oil was found nearby, with the INA refinery still its main employer and Lonjsko Polje nature park on its doorstep.

Kutina sits in Central Croatia, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Shoulder season, May or September, gives you the charm without the cruise ship crowds. Wander off the main street, the best cafés and doorways are one alley over.

• How to get there: Tap the map for the route. Croatian town parking is mostly paid and marked with blue P signs; if your trip involves an island, build buffer time in for the ferry.

Timing your trip

For Kutina, May to October is the dependable window. June and September are ideal, warm and lighter on crowds than July and August. In winter the country turns quieter and cheaper, especially in the inland cities.
