A spa town famous for its mineral springs and for the Lipizzaner stud founded here in the 19th century. Much of the town centre was destroyed in the 1991 war and has since been partly rebuilt.
Lipik sits in Central Croatia, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.
Mornings are quieter and cooler. Most old towns wake up slowly, so an early coffee is worth the effort.
Practical info
- Entry: check the official site for today’s price and hours. These move with the seasons, and some locations close fully outside the main window.
- How to get there: The map above gives exact directions. Expect paid, signposted parking in most towns (blue P zones), and pad your schedule if you are catching a ferry to an island.
Best time to visit
Lipik rewards a visit between May and October. The sweet spot is June or September, when the water is warm and the crowds thinner than in July and August. Come in winter and you find a quieter, cheaper country, at its most likeable inland.
