Founded in the early 1930s near the Krka waterfalls, this was the oldest aluminium plant in the Balkans. Production stopped around 2000 and the vast halls, machinery and gantries have been abandoned ever since, a favourite of urban explorers.

Lozovac Aluminium Factory sits in Dalmatia, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the abandoned place is the reason most people stop.

These buildings decay fast and floors give way. Sturdy boots, a torch and a charged phone are the minimum, and treat the place as a memorial, not a playground.

Practical info

  • Entry: check the official site for today’s price and hours. These move with the seasons, and some locations close fully outside the main window.
  • How to get there: The map above gives exact directions. Expect paid, signposted parking in most towns (blue P zones), and pad your schedule if you are catching a ferry to an island.

Timing your trip

Plan Lozovac Aluminium Factory for May to October, with June and September the quietest warm months. July and August bring the crowds and the heat; winter is cheaper and handsomer than people expect, especially in the inland cities.
