Manojlovacki Slapovi Krka

The Manojlovački slapovi are the highest series of waterfalls on the Krka river, a chain of cascades and pools in a narrow, steep-sided gorge upstream of the more famous Skradinski Buk. They are among the most dramatic sights in Krka National Park, and they are reached by a side trail off the main park loop.

The series is made up of several main falls and a set of smaller cascades, with the largest single drop around sixty metres, and the water builds tufa barriers across the gorge as it goes. The gorge itself is wilder and more enclosed than the open basin of Skradinski Buk, and the walk down into it is steeper.

The Manojlovački falls are reached from the Krka upper trails, and the path down into the gorge involves a serious of steps and viewing platforms. They are far less visited than the main loop, partly because of the climb, so they offer one of the quieter, more physical experiences in the park.

For photographers, the layered cascades in the narrow gorge are a stronger subject than the wide Skradinski Buk, but the light is tricky in the depth of the gorge. Take a neutral-density filter for the moving water and real shoes for the steps.
