Miljacka Krka

Miljacka Slap is a smaller waterfall on the Krka river, on the quieter stretch upstream of Roški Slap, and it sits near the Miljacka cave system, one of the larger karst caves of the Krka park. The area is part of the upper Krka, the section of the river that most visitors to the park never reach, and it is wilder and less developed than the lower loops.

The waterfall itself is modest compared with Skradinski Buk or Roški Slap, but the setting, a gorge of limestone and the cave openings in the cliffs, gives it a different character. The Miljacka cave is one of the longest in the park and holds an underground lake and a colony of bats, and it is only visitable on specialist caving trips.

This upper stretch of the Krka is for visitors who have already seen the main sights and want the quieter, harder-to-reach end of the river. The Krka monastery, the medieval Romanesque monastery carved above the river, sits in this area too.

For photographers, the gorge and the cave openings are the subject, and the area rewards a longer walk. Access is limited and partly by arrangement, so check what is currently open before planning a trip this far up the river.
