Mursko Središće

The northernmost town in Croatia, on the Mura river at the Slovenian border, a former coal mining centre in Međimurje.

Aim for May to October at Mursko Središće, and within that, June and September for warm water without the peak crowds. High summer means heat and queues; winter, by contrast, is quiet, cheap and surprisingly handsome inland.
