Otočac

A town on the clear Gacka river, a medieval military outpost on the Lika frontier. The Gacka is one of Europe’s cleanest rivers and a famous fly fishing destination.

Otočac sits in Lika & Gorski Kotar, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Mornings are quieter and cooler. Most old towns wake up slowly, so an early coffee is worth the effort.

When to go

Plan Otočac for May to October, with June and September the quietest warm months. July and August bring the crowds and the heat; winter is cheaper and handsomer than people expect, especially in the inland cities.
