Poreč

A Roman settlement (Parentium) whose 6th century Euphrasian Basilica, with its glittering Byzantine mosaics, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It passed through Venetian and Austrian rule to become one of Istria’s main resorts.

Poreč sits in Istria, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the city & town is the reason most people stop.

Mornings are quieter and cooler. Most old towns wake up slowly, so an early coffee is worth the effort.

When to go

For Poreč, May to October is the dependable window. June and September are ideal, warm and lighter on crowds than July and August. In winter the country turns quieter and cheaper, especially in the inland cities.
