Roski Slap Krka

Roški Slap is the second of the two great waterfalls of the Krka river, upstream of the more famous Skradinski Buk, and it is the gentler, wider sight of the two, a broad cascade over a series of tufa barriers interspersed with islets and mills. It sits roughly in the middle of Krka National Park and is the usual turnaround of the boat trip up from Skradinski Buk.

The waterfall spreads across the whole width of the river, with a necklace of smaller cascades and a set of restored watermills, some of which still turn and sell bread and souvenirs. Above the falls, the river opens out into a long, calm stretch, the Visovac lake, on which the Visovac monastery island sits. The boat trip between Roški Slap and Skradinski Buk, calling at Visovac, is the classic Krka outing.

Roški Slap is reachable by road as well as by boat, and it is the quieter end of the park, with a restaurant, a viewing path over the falls and a more relaxed pace than the crowded lower loop. The “necklace” of cascades, Rosnjak, before the main falls, is the most photographed single feature.
