Sadilovac

A Kordun village in the Lika borderlands, emptied during the 1990s war when most of its Serb population fled and could not return. It now stands as one of Croatia’s many depopulated inland settlements.

Sadilovac sits in Lika & Gorski Kotar, a part of Croatia with its own character, and the abandoned place is the reason most people stop.

Ruins are unstable. Do not climb on structures, watch for loose masonry and never go in alone. Many of these places are sites of difficult history, so move quietly and take nothing.

When to go

The best window for Sadilovac runs May to October. June and September balance warmth and thinner crowds; July and August are busy and hot. Out of season, winter shows a calmer, cheaper Croatia that rewards the inland cities.
