Sv. Mikul

You will find Sv. Mikul on most lists of Croatia’s best beaches, and the photos are not misleading.

Sv. Mikul stands in Kvarner, one of the six regions that make up the Croatia most visitors fall for. From the Adriatic shore to the karst mountains and the quiet inland valleys, this part of the country gives you something worth the detour.

Midday in July is the busy, hot, expensive hour. Aim for before 9 or after 5, and pack water shoes for the pebbles.

• How to get there: Use the map above for directions. Town parking is usually paid and signposted, watch for the blue P zones, and allow extra time if a ferry is part of your route.

Best time to visit

Aim for May to October at Sv. Mikul, and within that, June and September for warm water without the peak crowds. High summer means heat and queues; winter, by contrast, is quiet, cheap and surprisingly handsome inland.
