Telascica Nature Park: Dugi Otok Cliffs, Salt Lake & Best Anchorages
A nature park of towering cliffs and a salt lake on the south-east coast of Dugi Otok.
The Telašćica Nature Park covers the south-eastern tip of the long island of Dugi Otok and several neighbouring islets, and it is one of the most dramatically set protected areas on the Croatian coast. Its best-known features are the great white cliffs, the Stene, which rise sheer up to 160 metres out of the sea, and Lake Mir, a shallow, warm salt lake sitting in a hollow behind the cliffs.
The park has been protected since 1988, and it sits right next to the Kornati archipelago, across the Kornat channel. Many people visit it on a boat trip that takes in both, anchoring in one of the deep, sheltered bays of Telašćica for a swim and a walk up to the cliffs and the lake.
This is the wilder side of the Dalmatian islands, with little development and almost no shade. The walk up to the cliff edge and around Lake Mir is short but hot, so take water and sun cover.
For photographers, the cliffs dropping into the blue are the shot, best in morning light, and the lake reads well in flat calm. Boats run from Zadar and Sali in season; outside summer the park is all but empty.
