Vidova Gora: Highest Peak on Brac Island & Best Viewpoint
The highest peak of the Adriatic islands, with the classic view down to Zlatni Rat beach.
Vidova Gora, at 778 metres, is the highest peak of any of the Adriatic islands, on the island of Brač, and from its top there is the classic high view down to the Zlatni Rat beach, the famous pebble spit below Bol. The summit is forested, with a small chapel and a medieval tombstone, and on a clear day the view runs to Hvar, Vis and across to the mainland.
The peak is reached by a road and a short path from the interior of Brač, and it is the standard viewpoint for the Zlatni Rat beach photographs that show the spit’s shape from above. The path to the top from the coast is a long, hot climb, but the drive up from the interior is straightforward, with a parking area near the summit.
The reason most people come is the view of Zlatni Rat, which from above shows why the beach changes shape with the wind, the tip shifting one way and then the other. The rest of the view, the deep blue of the Hvar channel and the bare stone of the Brač interior, is the real reward.
For photographers, the Zlatni Rat from above is the shot that defines Brač, best in the morning before the haze builds. Take water for any walk from the coast, and reach it by car from the interior side.
