Standing at Winnetou 7, you are looking at a building that has watched a great deal of Croatian history come and go.

Worth knowing

Winnetou 7 stands in Lika & Gorski Kotar, one of the six regions that make up the Croatia most visitors fall for. From the Adriatic shore to the karst mountains and the quiet inland valleys, this part of the country gives you something worth the detour.

Many landmarks sell combined tickets with nearby sites, so ask at the entrance before buying. Opening hours shrink in the off season.

• Entry: check the official site for today’s price and hours. These move with the seasons, and some locations close fully outside the main window.
• How to get there: Tap the map for the route. Croatian town parking is mostly paid and marked with blue P signs; if your trip involves an island, build buffer time in for the ferry.

Timing your trip

Winnetou 7 is at its best from May to October. June and September are the sweet spot, warm water, long days, and thinner crowds than high July and August. Winter shows a quieter, cheaper and surprisingly handsome country, especially inland and in the cities.
